Cynthia Liu
Hello, I’m Cynthia.
I am a Te Whatu Ora accredited counsellor currently working within the Asian Mental Health Service. I am known for my calm, empathetic, and thoughtful approach, and I aim to provide a safe, supportive, and structured space where clients feel heard and understood.
I am originally from Macau, China, where I completed extensive training and gained valuable experience in counselling and psychotherapy. I have continued my professional practice and development in New Zealand, working with adults, children, adolescents, and older people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
I am trained in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy through the Oxford Mindfulness Centre, where I completed the evidence-based 8-week programme that integrates cognitive behavioural therapy with mindfulness practices. This approach supports clients to develop greater emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience.
I bring over 1,500 hours of counselling and psychotherapy experience from my work in both Macau and Auckland. I am committed to ongoing professional development and continually refining my skills, with a particular focus on trauma-related mental health.
I have experience supporting people with mood disorders, addictive behaviours, neurodiversity, post-traumatic stress and complex trauma, eating disorders, intergenerational and family-based trauma, and other mental health challenges. I work collaboratively and professionally, supporting clients to make practical and meaningful progress at a pace that feels right for them.
If you are looking for a counsellor who offers a calm, supportive, and thoughtful approach, I welcome you to book a session with me.
