Detoxing for a healthier lifestyle
Those who have suffered and survived a traumatic life event, be it personal, financial or natural, will often tell themselves it is time for a new start. Time to shed old habits and create healthy new ones. Maybe lose a bit of weight or conquer an addiction, change jobs or move house, these and many other ‘new starts’ may be embarked upon. One that has popped up a few times recently is detoxification, detoxing from electronics and social media, and detoxifying the body for a healthier life (Solomon, 2022).
Cleanse the mind and body.
Remembering that when we detox, we are not only treating our bodies to a cleanse, but we will be starting with new healthier thought patterns, which in turn will improve our mental well-being, give us a renewed resilience, make life brighter and give us hope for a fresh start and happier outlook. Bliss, joy, positive thoughts, hope, and unconditional love exist within the same thought frequency range, and we all have access to them when we are ready to listen to them (Wolfe & Gauthier, 2013).
Getting Started
Detoxification through changing what we put into our bodies can be confusing if we do not know where to start; at the fundamental level, detoxification starts with reducing or eliminating toxins going into our bodies and will progress through actively eliminating toxins to ongoing avoidance of toxins (Turnbull, 2015). An excellent place to start is with a trusted source, a doctor, nutritionist or mental health professional such as Kereru Therapy. To truly look good, we need to believe that we do; a simple exercise you can do right now to detox from those unhelpful thoughts is to sit quietly, preferably somewhere outside in the fresh air with sunshine on your face.

Now that you are sitting peacefully become aware of your thoughts, beliefs about yourself, hope for the future, and strengths (Wolfe & Gauthier, 2013). As you become aware of your thoughts, you will also be developing your ways of recognising when you need to banish unhealthy thoughts from your mind.
We don’t know what we don’t know.
Most of us are programmed to think in specific ways and given beliefs by our parents as we grow up, which become ingrained into our way of living, some helpful and some not so much. Unfortunately, we don’t know what we don’t know and may never know. If any negative thoughts enter your mind and have been lurking since childhood (Turnbull, 2015), now is the time to call them out. Just because you think something, it doesn’t make it true or real. It is just what you have been taught to think from life experiences.

Detoxing can start today with recognising negative thoughts. Are you ready to take the time to become aware of your thoughts? Can you switch those negative self-thoughts for positive self-empowerment? Are you ready for a new you?
